MPISCC Cares
With the economic hardships of the past few years, many MPISCC members have seen first-hand how difficult these times have been. In a sincere effort to continue our outreach within the community around us, and ensure our membership is engaged and educated on Community Outreach activities, MPISCC is launching our new committee name, MPISCC Cares! (Because we do!)
We are focusing our attention on three charities, and we will be hosting fundraising efforts in conjunction with some of our monthly meetings, as well as volunteer opportunities throughout the year. Please read below to find out about more about our charities. Please check back on the website and other MPISCC publications to learn about the many opportunities for you to contribute to these valued organizations. Los Angeles Mission Los Angeles Mission is a non-profit, privately supported, faith-based organization established to serve the immediate and long-term needs of homeless and disadvantaged men, women and children. Having begun as a small rescue mission, it is now among the nation’s largest service providers to the homeless. The Los Angeles Mission continues to provide hot meals, safe shelter, clothing, personal care and life-transforming long-term rehabilitation to hungry, hurting and homeless men, women and children. Rainbow Services Rainbow Services provides support and assistance for women and children dealing with family violence. They have two shelters, a 30-day emergency shelter called Rainbow House and a transitional shelter where women and children may remain for up to one year called Villa Paloma. They also have counseling, case management, parenting classes, life-skills classes, and several Children’s Programs. Rainbow Services, along with other domestic violence agencies, is part of a network that aims to keep families safe, with the ultimate mission of ending the cycle of family violence. Ronald McDonald House For 32 years the Los Angeles Ronald McDonald House has provided families with a safe and supportive place to stay while their child undergoes treatment for critical illness or injuries at local hospitals. To date, more than 25,000 families have stayed at the Los Angeles Ronald McDonald House during their time of need. The Los Angeles Ronald McDonald House understands that the needs of families go beyond simply finding a place to stay during their child’s illness. Programs have been designed to focus the attention of children and their parents away from hospital procedures through a wide array of services including weekly parent’s meetings that provide an opportunity to share experiences and fears associated with their child’s illness. They also provide one-on-one counseling for families and children. This opportunity for families to offer one another emotional support is what makes the Los Angeles Ronald McDonald House truly unique.
